THE MIRAFLOR

LET'S EXPLORE

MIRAFLOR UNCOVERED

Miraflor is a unique protected natural reserve located in the northern highlands of Nicaragua, north-east of the city of Estelí. The reserve is divided into different zones: dry tropical forest, natural grassland forest and cloud forest. There are also three different climates specific to each zone: dry at the lower area, intermediate/humid in the mid region, as well as a predominant cold forest higher up.

The Miraflor Experience

There are also 236 species of birds, among which one can observe the quetzal along with the emerald toucanet, three-wattled bellbird, chestnut-headed oropendola and the national bird of Nicaragua, the turquoise-browned motmot (also known as the guardian of the stream).

When guests slowly wake up as the sun rises and the birds start to sing, they will experience the difference between urban Nicaragua and the rustic countryside of the Miraflor!

When visiting the Miraflor it is important to consider the best way to travel. From Esteli, the gravel road to our finca and the Miraflor is bumpy and gets very dusty during the dry season. A high clearance 4x4 car is recommended, it will take around 45-60 minutes travelling this way.

Another option is taking one of the buses that travel here. The bus schedule is 6:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 3:45 Pm from Cotran Norte to La Rampla, Miraflor. This will take approximately 2 hours.

Finca Neblina Del Bosque is located approximately 27km north east of the city of Esteli in the cloud forest zone of the Miraflor. You can expect cool mornings and evenings (such a relief!) along with warm sunshine during the day and a mix of sun and rain in the wet season.

The Miraflor area is made up of forty-two communities and farms that have been established in different parts of the reserve. The economic activity is agriculture, cattle ranching and ecotourism. The production of excellent quality, organic tobacco and coffee are also an important regional products.

One of the main attractions of this reserve is its biodiversity. The Miraflor is one of the richest in the world for orchids; there are more than 200 species of them and the most common is the national flower of Costa Rica, which is the 'Catteleya Skinniri'. The orchids of Miraflor grow in different spots, such as trees (the most well known) and also on rocks and the ground, which are the most colorful and rare.
